PayPal B-T-S Promo

I came across an interesting back-to-school promotion by Paypal. The payment service site has teamed up with a group of retailers, including American Eagle Outfitters, Nike, Sears, Dell and others to offer 40 percent off certain items, with free shipping, for eligible purchases made through PayPal.

In addition, PayPal is aligning with Donors choose.org, an online charity that links individual philanthropists with classrooms in underserved urban and rural communities. When consumers shop at this site they can choose to donate part of their savings to support more than 10,800 classroom projects aimed at benefitting more than 271,000 students across the U.S. The offer is good from now through August 24.

In addition, some of the drug and office supply retailers are already rolling out their loss-leader specials designed to entice you into the store so you’ll buy the higher-priced stuff. In my area, Walgreen is promoting pencils, two-pocket folders and poster board for 9 cents each in a sale starting Sunday, July 19. To find deals in your city, click on the weekly ad in your area.  (I checked the Chicago zip code where I grew up, for example, and the specials there were priced at 39 and 59 cents.) Staples is offering an array of stuff for $1 (which is not too savvy, since in my town it’s right next door to Walgreens. Gotta love what competition does for consumer prices!)
